Generika joins spectacle in celebration of 2nd Hane Festival, 406th founding anniversary of Tanay

Two of Generika Drugstore branches participated recently in the much-awaited Hane Festival, which coincided with the 406th founding anniversary of Tanay, Rizal with the theme: "Turismo at Kalikasan sa Tanay, Ipagmalaki...Hane."

Generika Sampalok Road together with Generika Plaza Aldea franchisees and staff collaborated and created a Generika float, showcasing what the drugstore can offer. Adorned with indigenous materials and homegrown produce, Generika's float easily grabbed the attention of the crowd with the huge replica of medicines bedecking the canopy of the float.

Thousands of local residents and visitors, as well as representatives from business entities, associations, and members of the Philippine Army paraded past the thoroughfares of Tanay, which started from Sampalok Road and ended at Plaza Aldea where Generika Drugstore branches are strategically located.

Aside from the float and people's parade, among the highly-anticipated activities were the palaro ng lahi featuring traditional native games, street dance competition, agri-trade fair and art exhibit, and the coronation of the Mutya ng Tanay 2012.

All events and activities were anchored on the theme promoting the wealth of culture, celebration of life, thanksgiving for the gifts of nature and the bounty of harvest.

The celebrations were heavily promoted by the local government officials and residents of Tanay, with the support coming from the private sector and business owners, including the franchisees of Generika outlets who have been actively participating in activities that keep the place's traditions alive.

Generika Sponsors International Symposium on Drug Product Quality, Equivalency and Regulations

Generika Drugstore is the major sponsor of the International Symposium on Drug Product Quality, Equivalency and Regulations (ISDPQER 2012) held on November 6 and 7 at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.

As a sponsor, Generika had a full page ad on the back cover of the Souvenir Program and the “Lipat” TVC was the only video continuously played during the 30-minute breaks.

The technical symposium is jointly hosted by the University of the Philippines Manila College of Pharmacy, Philippine Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (PACOP), and international partners such as the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).

The speakers are renowned experts in the areas of biopharmaceutics, local and international regulatory standards on drug product quality and equivalency, quality testing of drug products, compendial processes, and industry applications on generic medicines, among others.

Speakers during Day 1 Morning Plenary Session (L-R): Ms. Maria Lourdes C. Santiago (Philippine Food and Drug Administration), Dr. Leslie G. Benet (University of California San Francisco), Dr. Vinod P. Shah (United States Pharmacopeia), Mr. Tomas Marcelo G. Agana III (Philippine Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry), and Dr. Imelda G. Peña (UP Manila College of Pharmacy).

Speakers during Day 1 Afternoon Plenary Session (L-R): Dr. Vinod P. Shah (United States Pharmacopeia) and Dr. Nhan L. Tran (Lachman Consultants’ Technical Practice Group)

Speakers during Day 2 Morning Plenary Session (L-R): Ms. Frances Evelyn P. Robles (Philippine Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry), Dr. Vinod P. Shah (United States Pharmacopeia), Dr. Leslie Z. Benet (University of California San Francisco), and Dr. William D. Torres (Center for Drug Research, Evaluation, and Studies).

The symposium offered a unique opportunity where local and international experts are brought together in one program to cater to a diverse group of participants with common interests on ensuring drug product quality that impacts patient safety.

The participants came from various fields of practice such as community, hospital, industry, research, and academe. The event was highly attended by top pharmaceutical companies including the Philippine Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry, public institutions concerning pharmaceutical regulation and development, including the Department of Health, Food and Drug Administration, the National Center for Pharmaceutical Access and Management,  and Department of Science and Technology to name a few.

Generika’s representatives from the Key Accounts Department learned a lot during the symposium. The plenary sessions provided a deeper insight on the present situation, challenges, and future directions in the quality assurance of drug products in general and of generic medicines in particular. Local and international regulatory guidelines on generic medicines were also presented. Through this event, the staffs were able to establish professional ties with other pharmacists and leaders in their respective fields. They were also able to market Generika and its services to various institutions.

Continuing pharmacy education programs such as this are necessary for members of the profession to maintain, improve and ultimately broaden their knowledge and skills and develop the personal qualities required in their professional lives. After all, patients depend on pharmacists for health and medication information and because of that, they need to be up to date on every aspect of their profession.

Generika Drugstore opens 300th branch

Generika Drugstore, one of the country's fastest growing drugstore chains, proudly celebrated a milestone with the opening of its 300th branch this September 2012, coinciding the company's 9th anniversary.

Strategically located at the corner of Naning and Viceo Sts., in Poblacion, Baliuag, Bulacan, Generika Drugstore Baliuag branch is owned by Mr. Ben Monteiro who, in 2009, acquired a Generika franchise. His first Generika store was located in Sta. Maria, Bulacan and this was quickly followed with two more in Los Baños, Laguna and Angono, Rizal. Starting with only three stores, his franchise outlets quickly grew to 10 stores located in Bataan, Bulacan, Laguna and NCR in three years.

"I am very happy with the business relationship I have with Generika management. They have been very supportive since the time that I only had one Generika franchise, up until now that I have multiple stores," says Monteiro.

When it was founded in September 2003, Generika Drugstore only had company owned stores. The first branch was established in Montillano, Alabang in 2004, followed by 14 company stores in the next four years. Management took the time and effort to learn the business until in 2008 when Generika went franchising. This allowed the Generika branch network to grow exponentially, now surpassing the 300-mark as it celebrates its 9th anniversary. Generika outlets continue to expand in key cities and municipalities not only in Luzon but also in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Counting the stores to be opened shortly, Generika now operates in 340 locations nationwide, establishing itself as one of the leading brands in the pharmaceutical retail industry. "As more and more people are beginning to recognize the Generika brand, and with our tried and tested business formula, we hope to grow and be the preferred brand for entrepreneurs who are looking for a sound business opportunity," says Generika Drugstore President Mr. Teodoro Ferrer. The company plans to hit the 400 mark by early next year as it gears up to become the leading national chain of drugstores, offering quality affordable medicines.

Generika has also been fortunate to receive many awards. Last year, it was awarded the Most Promising Filipino Franchise for 2011 by the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). His wife, Ms. Arlene de Vera, in the meantime, shared a passage from the bible which says "There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land," (Deuteronomy 15:11).

Staff of Generika Litex and Villongco branch, representatives from the Operations Department of Generika Head Office, and the franchisees themselves volunteered for this event in the spirit of sharing and compassion to the needy.
